People with diabetes in Devon are having avoidable amputations, according to new figures released by Diabetes UK.
The figures, based on NHS data, show that while the overall diabetes-related amputation rate in the area has decreased slightly since last year, it is still too high.
In the NHS North, East and West Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (NEW Devon CCG) area, 4.1 per thousand people with diabetes per year during 2010 to 2013 had a lower limb amputation.
This is well above the national average of 2.6 per thousand people with diabetes per year. It is the 12th highest rate in England, and the second highest rate in the South West.
