Today is my 17th Diaversary!

Seems like only yesterday, but it was on this day - also May Bank Holiday - in 2008 i was rushed to hospital in a very confused state, where I received my diagnosis and spent the following 8 days in hospital 😱 I had started being very sick the previous Wednesday evening, and thought it was just a virus, so was just hoping it would run its course. However, it got worse through the following days until I reached a point where I decided I had to seek help and called 999. I had lost 18 pounds in weight in 4 days, been unable to eat or drink and keep anything down, my heart was racing, I felt disorientated, struggled to hear or talk and had zero energy 😱 :( I was supposed to be running the Stockholm Marathon the following week!

Fortunately for me this forum came into being around 5 months later and was the greatest source of information and support I could have wished for <3 Members were few and far between back then, but quickly increased - I'm happy to see that some of those members are still here today, offering support and sharing their experiences to help new members navigate their way through this often confusing and difficult diagnosis <3 I thank each and every member for their help in making this such a valuable source of information that the HCPs simply do not know about if they lack first-hand experience.

As you probably know, the 17th Diaversary is the Chocolate Fudge Cake Diaversary, so I will be indulging later - I have a bucket of novorapid ready to go :D

The Diabetes Fairy has just roused herself and brought me a present - I don't have the heart to tell her where she can stick it 😱 :D <3
