Had a very hot weekend, volunteering at Cliffhanger festival in Sheffield. Fortunately, each volunteer was given a thin cotton yellow T shirt, and we could wear shorts, caps etc. Orienteering when off duty was a bit hot - as it was a score course, I quickly realised that I should make route choices based on running downhill only and finding shade wherever possible, rather than finding the most controls. Now house hunting and have a meeting about a potential post grad course tomorrow - shorts will have to be acceptable 🙂
Many years ago, when nursing one hot summer in London, our ward sister phoned matron and told her that her ward nurses were taking off cotton aprons and tights right now and coming in wearing own clothes next day - I wore loose cotton trousers and a cotton short sleeved shirt, which was comfortable and practical. Might not have got away with it in many hospitals, but this was care of the elderly / stroke rehab.
