Hey, I’m struggling to get advice from anyone who knows what’s what-
MIL, 80, type 2 on metformin. Started on steroids for sarcoidosis 2 weeks ago.
BG 24 mmol at 1800, 11mmol now… swinging no doubt. Should she go to hospital tonight, tomorrow, or just get the GP to see her in the morning? She doesn’t have ketone sticks.

Steroids raise blood sugars so each dose your MIL takes will spike her levels and gradually wear off as the day goes on. MIL needs to be very aware of the amount of carbs she is consuming whilst on steroids. The lower the better for helping to keep the steroid highs down. There's no need to go to the hospital imho, but if you are worried then ring the after hours service for advice.

Hello @AnnaSpanner ,

I would also suggest ringing nhs 111

That was my first go to- after 30 minutes on hold they were less than helpful and said if I was concerned to call 999. The GP and nurse have seen her today. She has to do one blood glucose reading a day and then go back in a week with the results. Not sure I like that plan either but there you go!

Sounds as useful as a chocolate teapot :(

Hi. Yes, keep the carbs way down. The GP and nurse appear to be useless.
