Hi
I usually control my diabetes with diet alone, and recently when I went for an MOT it had dropped 5 points. Last Friday I went out with my family for lunch and as it was a Christmas celebration I decided to eat what I wanted and it was delicious! On returning home I felt sleepy and napped for about three hours, woke up and had a cup of tea, then fell asleep again. This happened twice more. In all I slept approximately seventeen hours! This has never happened before. Has anyone else experienced this?

On a normal day of eating I find that I can nod off for half an hour if the meal contains even a small amount of carbohydrates. But 17 hours is a bit over the top!

You really need to do a finger prick blood test to see what your levels are after eating to see if the meal caused high blood sugar that could lead to tiredness.
.
Tiredness could be caused by numerous things.

Protein is usually the main thing for after-meal sleepiness, but it could be anything. Maybe you were just working off your accumulated sleep deficit for the year? 🙂
