Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi before I got diagnosed with type 1 I was tried all the time and was expecting to have more energy by now. Is this a cause of diabetes, something just have to live with? Will it get better when I have better control or is this just a knock on effect of having being diagnosed a few months ago meaning am mentally and physcially drained. Anyone experience the same when they were diagnosed?

What are your blood sugars like at the moment? If they're still mainly above the normal range, you'll still be suffering from fatigue.

Have you been tested for hypothyroidism? It's quite common amongst people with diabetes, especially Type 1 I believe, and can lead to tiredness. Are you on any other medications?

Hi they are over past 2 days
9.3
7.1
10.6
9

10.6
9.9 etc

Usually around the 8's 9's 10's at the moment as just started MDI from 2 injections. DSN said that they arent drastic. I just feel agitated all the time and tired after I eat. Am upping the basal slightly later. I realise these arent great results but thought I would feel alot better

I think some people are more sensitive to even slightly elevated levels - certainly that's how I feel, as a 9 or 10 will make me feel lethargic and sometimes nauseous. Hopefully, as your doses are gradually increased and levels come down a little that will be enough for your body and brain to feel more comfortable and energetic! 🙂

Astbury, I was diagnosed with Type 1 10 months ago and felt pretty weak and lacking in energy for about 3 months afterwards despite getting my BGs down to sensible levels. I feel pretty much back to normal now, albeit the occasional day of feeling unwell does seem to come around more frequently.

Hi thanks yes I shall ask the consultant next week when I go for my 3 monthly visit! They will have to do blood test anyway so might as well test for that too! Save me going to the doctors and them just saying 'oh it wont be that'😉
