I've been messing up with my blood glucose management lately.
Started with a 3.2 before bed- which was self inflicted as did a correction bolus an hour before for a high reading when the bolus wizzard said still enough insulin on board to get it down- it was also during a dance class although a not very energetic one. ( The high was due to a jacket potato which was weighed and carbs bolused for correctly but high glycaemic index)
I had some glucose and a small apple and went to bed without retesting or thinking to slightly reduce my overnight basal which on retrospect was rather silly
Woke up feeling awful at 3.6
Had what probable amounted to over 20 mg glucose and 15 -20 mins later was up to 5.3
Normal breakfast bolus
two hours later - 16.4!

I don't know whether this was overtreatment of a mild hypo- I always understood glucose works it;s maximum effect within 15 to 20 minutes and I was keen to get it up to legal driving levels ASAP so that I could leave for work 45 mins later - or a rebound ( possibley worse due to being low in the evening and possibly overnight as well)- or if , for some reason glucose just takes longer to work for me!-
Anyway- all I want to say is Grrrrrr
It's not getting any less frustrating after 26 years
I've had hypos at getting up time before which generally have not been horribly low but have taken along time to come up- usually assume this is because of basal insulin being too high .
I'm thinking of starting a "lets laugh or slap wrists at our silly diabetes blunders" thread

Sounds has if todayis not a good diabetes day Abi :(
Funny enough I had almost the same problem Sunday evening. Went to the village carol wailing (singing), blood sugar a tad lower than expected after evening meal so thought be smartie pants and eat a bit more to be safe. Checked an hour later as felt low 3.8  So treated and went up to 7.6 all fine me thinks come home test at 9.30 to find gone down 5.6. So even more confused. Woke up at 3a.m, at 14.1 😱 It's rare for me to hit double figures so that was a complete shock to the system. Monday was spent feeling cr*p as a bonus. 😡

I find this sort of thing happens to me all the time. I always carefully measure how much glucose take to deal with hypo, but ALWAYS have a rebound later. Difficult to get out of the yoyo situation sometimes.

I am looking at changing to Apidra as a faster shorter acting insulin rather than Novorapid to prevent the 'tail' which sometimes catches me - perhaps that also explains your overnight low? - I'm sure my QA is still around over 5 hours sometimes!
