I'm only prediabetic, so I have no medication to take into account ... but I naturally lean to 2 meals a day and decided to go with a 16/8 pattern recently. However if I was properly hungry I'd eat, I'm not a 'hard and fast rules' kinda gal 😛
I follow my natural tendency to start with a (very) late breakfast then a meal later on. I would think TRE will be easier if you work with your bodies natural tendencies rather then trying to conform to a specified timing.
Hi has anyone here done time restricted eating and what was the result ? I’m type 2, currently on 3 x daily Metformin . Tried calorie counting but not working for me this time round. I just read article and it sounds promising :
Background Time-restricted feeding is an emerging dietary intervention that is becoming increasingly popular. There are, however, no randomised clinical trials of time-restricted feeding in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes. Here, we explored the effects of time-restricted feeding on...
I found on a low carb higher fat way of eating that I generally don't need 3 meals a day and rather than follow any particular routine I tend to eat when I am hungry or I have the opportunity to eat.
I like my natural creamy Greek yoghurt, berries and seeds for breakfast, so I usually have that and then an evening meal, so I am most likely to skip lunch or just have a half a green apple with a chunk of cheese at lunchtime or a few nuts and sometimes I am not even bothered about having a meal in the evening, so I might just have a pot of olives with feta on an evening or a meal like chicken curry on a bed of cooked shredded cabbage or a steak with mushrooms, salad and coleslaw.
I like that I am not at the whim of craving food anymore and have a fairly easy option to eat as much or as little as my body tells me I need, as and when I need it. I am sure that some people much prefer to have a set routine, but this flexible approach works well for me.
As I never do things by halves - it will catch me out one of these days - for the last month I have ben eating very little.
Over time I had gone from eating every 12 hours to smaller and smaller meals in the morning, or forgetting to eat at all.
With 8 years from diagnosis coming up and everything being just about fine, but me still wondering if I could do better, I bought three boxes of Tesco shakes and started to cut down.
Having a shake in the morning meant double the usual amount of carbs before noon - made me hungry, so I decided to move it further into the day. I was still not hungry at 5pm, but decided to have a shake then and a small meal a bit later. Fasting for about 22 hours. I did have a mug of coffee with cream some days, and some tea in the evenings.
My annual blood test will be taken on Monday 21st, so I am looking forward to discovering if this has made any alteration in my Hba1c level.

I think it is 20 gm of carb when made up with semi-skimmed milk.
A couple of times I have used full fat milk, as we get that delivered for my husband and I have not wanted to go shopping in the rain. Actually that might have reduced the carbs by a tiny amount - just increased the calories.
I had to go to one of the big Tesco stores to find the shakes.
