More thinking aloud. Today is my birthday and the day three years ago I was diagnosed. Three years. Where did that time go?

Happy birthday 🙂 have a great day and congratulate yourself on those great results!

Happy birthday have a lovely day

Many thanks but the results may well be due to a misdiagnosis according to my DN rather than anything to do with me. My story which i have bored this forum to tears is as follows. Both my parents were diabetic (late onset), so I decided it was time to see if I was in the club. I had no symptons (but nevertheless). I saw my GP who told me I couldn't have a blood test because I hadn't any symptons. At the same time I was suffering with an extremely painful torn ligament. I asked if I could have a private blood test. She gave me an address in London and off I went. Blood test came back but the page with the Hba1c was missing. I phoned up and they found it and faxed it to surgery. Hba1c was74. Ergo Diabetic. On to Metformin immediately end of consultation. I kept a food diary, carried on with dreaded porridge, a slice of toast. No real change to diet and every meal returned 5.5 or 6.5. Had Hba1cs when asked and all returned non diabetic numbers. On the last visit to DN I mentioned all the good levels to DN and she said it was strange as I didn't present as diabetic and I should have been given a 2nd Hba1c. She wondered if my blood sample belonged to someone else. I went home and checked the details from the clinic, and found the page with Hba1c results had a different reference number from the first page.

I decided I will never really know and at some point my GP will decide to reduce metformin. Although when I don't have a clue. Last time we spoke I asked her how much does Metformin contribute to levels along with diet and exercise exercise?
. Reasonable question I thought
She immediately responded with it is far too soon to.come off Metformin. Which isn't what I had asked.

So in the spirit of pick your battles, l decided to carry on as I simply don't have the energy, or time to argue. Shame, she is a relatively young woman but ...needs to learn to listen a few minutes. She is the go to GP in the practice for diabetes.

Still the birthday cake is lovely

That is some tale @Sharron1 . I don't know whether I'd be mad at the docs or confused as to my status re diabetes. You shouldn't have to pick a battle over this. Not very satisfactory either way. Glad you liked your cake:D it won't let you down😛

I spent a while going along with it, until i read stuff on the forum and started to think there may be a problem with my diagnosis. The numbers in food diary, hbac1, very little change in diet and no symptoms (although I know that can happen). It was the nurse doing my blood test who said the sample could belong to someone else. I went home and checked the page from the clinic and found a different reference number. Given that the GP who deals with diabetic patients isn"t really up for any conversation, although really good at prescribing. I decided I will never know and eventually she will think it is time to reduce metformin. However, when i have my review I take my own bp readings, weigh.myself on Boots electronic scales. I simply don't trust them which isn't great. Also at the same time misdiagnosed by another GP with my knee, she told me it was age related pain and not to take asprin. In fact I had torn a muscle and needed physio. I needed an MRI for that, all of which I arranged privately. No spaces to change to a different surgery. So am stuck here. There endeth the tale.
