Coming up to my first Christmas since diagnosis. Have been thinking of all the things I would
normally eat and wondering how to not overdo it for a change (or is a bit of cheating allowed on
one day of the year)? 67 years old on Metformin 1000mg twice a day. Does anyone know the best way to
calculate carbs when plates fully loaded?

I wouldn’t bother to calculate carbs if you’re just on Metformin. However, you could pre-warn whoever is serving up your meal so that you can control carbs eg by saying that you only want 1 roast potato or whatever. Ideally, you’d serve yourself because then you can have plenty of the lower carb foods and moderate amounts of the higher carb ones.

Treating yourself is fine but you can still treat yourself reasonably and moderately, and make wise choices re the foods you eat and the serving size.
