Hi All

I'm Monica, mum to daughter C, who was diagnosed March 2007 aged 10. I'm also mum to daughter F who is 3 years younger and not diabetic, but worrying as she's 10 now.

We went to Clinic last Thursday. Her HbA1C was 6.9. :D We were happy with the result, but unfortunately this result is only because C had quite a few unexplained hypos 😱. The doctor would like C to go on a pump ( I assume because of those hypos), but C doesn't want to. He also showed us how to calculate the insulin a different way (same as pump users), which at first scared me. But then thinking about it I realised that I just simply needed to know the times tables.

I have been looking and commenting on threads here before I introduced myself because I wasn't sure whether I'd continue visiting here.

Hi Monica, an 'official' welcome to the forum 🙂. As you probably know we have some parents here that are very knowledgeable about pumps. Your daughter's reluctance is understandabel, but she might be persuaded if she could do a 'dry run' or meet other children her age with pumps? Maybe Adrienne can put you in touch with someone. 🙂

Hope you decide to stay! 🙂

Hi Monica

My son also diagnosed in 2007 age 10. He now on a Veo pump (since Jul09) and things going very well so far. 🙂

Hi Monica

Welcome to the forum, My son Jack aged 8 was dx in Aug last year. Hes on injections (mixes) but hoping for him to go onto MDI very soon.

hi and welcome to the forum

Hi Monica and welcome. 🙂

Love the names of your kids, nice and short 😉

Hi Monica, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for all your welcomes.

As to doing a dry run with the pump, I have suggested that to her too. And she does know 1 boy with a pump. But thanks for your offer. I might have to take you up on that one day.

We have a wonderful childrens/parent support group in Hull we go to. There the children play/talk while the parents discuss and support each other. The boy there has his pump for about nearly a year now and is doing well on it. At the last meeting this boy had a bit of trouble with his tube though. His parents and he stayed calm about it, but I was worrying for him 😱 almost panicking (and he's not even my child!). Mum kindly answered all my questions I had at the time.
