Hi all - haven't been on for a while - sorry :(

Anyway I have a question that I have been meaning to ask for ages ... well, since I was diagnosed to be fair ... but I haven't got a-round-tuit 😱

I'm on 3 metformin a day, so I have them after the 3 main meals. But sometimes I am a bit naughty and have a piece of cake or something like that in the afternoon at work - I have to eat my lunch at 11.30am because I start work at 12 and don't have my dinner until about 6.30pm.

Question is: when should I take my final metformin ... after the cake and take nothing after dinner or take nothing after the cake and wait until dinner around 6.30?

Regards
Lynn

Someone help please??

I take two, but I always time them before I start my meal - i.e, before breakfast and before the evening meal.

I think you find what works for you and doesn't send you rushing to the loo! 😱😉

Well it doesn't really matter since metformin has no direct action on your blood glucose, it just helps your body use your naturally produced insulin properly. So the insulin then addresses the BG like it's sposed to.

And people seem to have less gastric effects if they take it with food.

When I am working I save my last metformin till after my evening meal. I think it is a case of trial and error and you need to see what works best for you. Many people find it better to tak metformin with or after food as it cuts down on some of the smelly side effects...
