Hi there thankyou for allowing me to join the forum, I have pre diabetes as a result of having gestational diabetes on both my pregnancies although they are six years apart. I'm wanting to try and keep my diet safe in regards to not wanting my pre diabetes to escalate. I've started the keto way of eating and have been on it 8 days now. Any info on healthy snacks would be great and also the whole carb thing has me a little confused when it comes to trying to work out net carbs? Are these just the carbohydrates that are listed on a food label or do I need to do a calculation to work it out. It's all very new to me I'm hoping there are a few experienced keto people that can point me in the right direction for my new healthy adventure thanks

My go to snacks are a chunk of cheese or pork scratchings. Olives and hard boiled eggs are also used by a number of members

Hi. Welcome to the Forum.
You don't have to work out net carbs from the info on food packaging in the UK. Just take the carb info straight off the packaging. It's always shown as 'per 100 grams' and sometimes also as a portion, in the case of bread, for example, 'per slice'. For fresh produce like fruit and veg just Google it.

Nuts are my personal choice for snacking as they are generally low carb but contain good amounts of unsaturated fat (the 'good' fats), either just as they are or in the form of a protein bar or nut bar.

Oh brilliant thank you for your help

Welcome to the forum @Vanda

It sounds like you might have been reading some articles from the US. Food labelling in America includes the fibre (fiber!) content in the total carbohydrate - but of course we don’t digest the carbs in fibre - so folks in the US have to subtract fibre to give them ‘net carbs’.

In the UK this is already done for you, and the total carbs figure is ready to use 🙂
