I was diagnosed with this recently. I wake up like I have a hangover including headache every morning. Maybe worth chasing your gp up?

Yes I have high blood sugars and I've just purchased a blood sugar machine today from the chemist as I'm not due to see the diabetic nurse till the 1st june

If you are Type 1, that could be dangerous. You could be at risk of ketones and ketoacidosis. Please do test your blood sugar lots. Don’t be afraid of seeking medical advice if it’s high.

If you are drinking a lot of water then your electrolyte balance could be out of whack and that can give you a headache. You could try sucking on ice cubes to relieve your dry mouth as long as you don't have sensitive teeth.

If the OP has high Blood Glucose levels and is suspected Type 1 then it is important to keep the fluids going through their system.

I too clearly remember that thirst and it in unquenchable but it is because the kidneys are trying to remove the surplus glucose rather than a question of just having a dry mouth.

@Lisa69jp You should be able to help the situation by cutting back on your carb intake if you haven't already. All carbs break down into glucose in the digestive system, not just sugar, so bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and breakfast cereals will all push your levels higher whilst your kidneys are trying to get rid of some of it. Cutting right back on these foods should help in the short term but they really should be starting you on insulin by the sound of it.

Also make sure not to drink anything like fruit juice or milk or full sugar fizzy drinks to quench your thirst as they all contain sugars which will just replace the glucose faster than your kidneys can get rid of it. Plain water is best if you can manage with that or a very dilute low calorie squash.

Please make sure to report the ongoing problem to your GP or nurse along with the readings you get and if your levels go up into the high 20s and don't come down or you start to feel unwell (abdominal pain, difficulty breathing or your breath smells funny, like pear drops) get yourself to hospital pronto.

If you are like me, a plain ordinary type two, then reducing the amount of carbs you are eating will have an immediate effect on the problems - it is like turning off a tap.
My Hba1c was 91 at diagnosis, and I dove straight into low carb as I got no advice other than take the tablets.
My diabetes was sorted in 6 months, but it might have been more prudent to cut down the carbs a bit more slowly.
If you are cutting out the carbs bit by bit and see no difference in your blood glucose levels, and particularly if you begn to feel off colour then you should not wait to get help - if the GP Surgery can't see you, the weekend or sunset is approaching and you are feeling worse and worse, then dial 111 for advice, or consider 999 or a visit to A & E as if you are actually something more interesting and you need insulin delaying is dangerous.
Your meter should help you see how things are going - as long as you have a supply of the strips it needs. Some only come with a few strips and you need to purchase more for the start up intensive testing process

Thankyou I bought extra strips today too as mine only came with a few

What’s your blood sugar now @Lisa69jp ?

I’d be seeking medical advice if they were approaching 20. I was on the verge of ketoacidosis in the high 20s. If you do need to phone them, tell them you’re being investigated for possible Type 1.

Thankyou as I only got diagnosed last Friday I haven't a clue what I'm doing when to do my bloods or anything like that what they should or shouldn't be
