Hi Forum. I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes in late July 2017. Weighing over 17st @ 5ft 7" my HbAlc was 111. At 61yrs with a Heart Condition, Diabetes was the last thing I needed. I was prescribed GLICLAZIDE 80mg 1x Daily, METFARTIN 500mg 2xDaily + Self Monitoring 2XDaily. After a short spell in hospital, I was advised, to lose weight, exercise, count calories and carbs.
I bought a "Fitbit" and an Exercise Bike, and followed my 1000 +cals Vegetarian/Vegan Diet or A Plant Based Rainbow Diet which I prefer. My second HbAlc was 33. I no longer, self monitor,
and no longer take Diabetes Medication. Recently I had my Third HbAlc which read 31. My weight today 07/03/2018 is 10st 7lbs. I saved some of my old clothes and wear them over track suits, for extra warmth. My house dropped to MINUS 4% coldest ever. But I Survived. Monitoring and Controlling my Diabetes with Diet and Exercise, feels a lot better, than with the Medication, but I wouldn't hesitate to take tablets again. Unmonitored and uncontrolled Diabetes is a living nightmare. Hope you are all well and full of Beans. All the best, cheers clive55555

Hi Mike. Definitely a "different man" I don't recommend extreme weight loss, unless under medical supervision, I have got wise to Vitamins and Supplements with Protein Powder. Here's to Spring, Cheers Clive55555

Hi Hobie Glad you are well. I was glad that some advice from the hospital was to join Diabetes UK, joining the forum, specially when you live alone, was a really good idea, the ideas, advice and especially the bits of fun. Cheers all the Best clive555555

Hi Northerner. Glad we both survived the "BREAST FROM THE EAST". Yes Northerner, being diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes, and being able to monitor and control my Diabetes, is a life changer. At lest I know what's happening when my Blood Glucose Levels rise or fall, less trips to the loo and not sleeping all day every day. But the most fun for me as been the forum. The first time I ever made contact on the web.
When your on your own it's surprising how nice it is to have a " Friendly Forum" to contact for advice, help or FUN. Cheers All the best clive55555

This forum is a God send, certainly for me.
Very confused and also very frightened as no real medical help or explanation given at initial diagnosis.
Have joined here I had enough confidence to have a confidential chat with our doctor's receptionist.
They are a rural practise so not many options but she made me an appointment with the other partner who she said knew more about diabetes and it's been better since then.
Advice is still to have fifty percent of each meal as carbs though, I think I know what you all think about that!

Hi Jackie In my opinion, concerning Diet, go to Diabetes UK on-line shop, Purchase a book called "Counting Carbs and Calories". Sit down and write and food plan, with a weekly, fortnightly or monthly Menu.
Down load your favourite Supermarket to your computer. All the calories and carbs are listed for all the ingredients. Decide how many Carbs or Calories you require each day or meal. At a press of a button they will deliver! Keep a daily diary of the Food calories and Carbs. If your self monitoring, this will help, even more so if you don't self monitor. After a while it gets to be second nature. Then when the seasons change bring in some new ideas. When counting Carbs and Calories always remember to watch the weight of your ingredients. Cheers all the best clive55555
