Thermomix - any good?

As part of my school duties today, I somehow ended up attending a Thermomix demonstration!
Excuse my scepticism, but I believe this may actually be a glorified pyramid scheme (which our parent society seems to have become involved in!) but the Thermomix itself looks like a great bit of kit.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Or know how much they are? Shockingly, I was not informed of how much one would cost, and would have to give my details to 'learn more'! But they do look rather good!

Maybe there's a more reasonably priced equivalent?

I know a couple of folks who have them, and swear by them. They are a great bit of kit, but as you likely know, even the older models command a hefty price tag.

They are also used in professional kitchens, so they can be real work horses.

There are similar gizmos. The MagiMix Cook Expert gets decent press.

I'm sure there are some wonderful Facebook groups that could guide you to impecunity.

Good Housekeeping had this to say about them:-

They're not cheap from what I see on Amazon.

And I thought I was being extravagant with a Bamix and all accessories.
I suppose that having already bought all the gadgets and equipment I might ever need - the cast iron will see me out I'm sure, it would seem to be excessive to spend almost £1200 on one thing - but if it is going to be the entire kitchen to feed a family then it might just about be justifiable.
