The most awkward bit.

My wife does not seem to accept that she should participate in Diet - Life style change,
What does this mean?
She will not eat brown rice ? whole meal pasta ? wholemeal bread (I found some ???spelt??? bread the other day) so 2 lots of rice-pasta ?bread about,
She insists on cooking bolognaise / chilli with full fat mince and skimming the fat off -- cooking in its own fat makes the meat taste better (her father is the author of the meat inspectors hand book and other mighty tomes --meat and meat product related and acknowledged as one of the top 6 people in Europe within the meat butchery industry)
Fish I eat on my own, she would rather have a pot noodle,
She works in the Wine importing industry so drinks wine -- I have water.
Tea with skimmed milk I am getting used to, as Samantha has become lactose intolerant there are few comments on the milk. But she is insisting on using cream in cooking taking lactase enzyme tablets and still being ill rather than accept that she should not use cream! Dedication for you.

:(

I'm sorry Andrew. Have you tried talking to her?

I can't imagine not being super glued to Rob's side and helping as and where I can? Maybe I am too keen? Sometimes with 100 pans on the go trying to remember if I've included everything in the carb content of the meal it can get a bit much.

But hey us females are a funny species at times, not quite a funny as you men though 😛

I think you've only recently been diagnosed so stick with it she may just be having trouble adjusting herself ?

I wonder if your OH is also under the influence of her dad still (in a deep and psychological way) since he's clearly such a strong character and she's presumably been shown certain methods of doing things.

Oh dear, it's a tricky one isn't it. We are fairly new to this diabetes malarkey, but as I see it we are in it together, and I want to get Tony well again, The hardest thing I find is not having a beer in the evening, I do love my real ale, but I do sometimes have a glass of wine, Tony doesn't like wine so I'm not tempting him 🙂 I did struggle with wholemeal bread, but now I prefer it to white!. The only thing I really can't eat is brown rice..yuk :(

Basmati rice is fine if you don't like brown 🙂 Also, beware of wholemeal bread - some of it is so refined it's nearly as bad as white. Best bread is Burgen soya and linseed, or any multigrain bread 🙂

And it's not all bad news about beer, further down the line he will be able to have beer (in moderation of course!). It's all a case of finding out how things affect you and choosing the things that have least impact

Thanks for the tip about the bread, and good news about Basmati, I love that!! 🙂

Hiya,

Oops totally diffirent view on things here sorry!
I woud never inflict my lifestyle changes on my other half, its not through choice what I have to eat, I eat it as im diabetic and knew i had to make those changes,he aint so he can get on with what he wants to eat, nothing to bad of course.I know him too well also he would never change he is a stubborn 40 something.

Hope ive not got the wrong end of the stick and its youe wife thats the diabetic?
I dont think my other should participate in diet(its should be his choice) and i certainly wont force him he has been 10st 11 for the last 8 years so i must be doing something right.

p.s And just because he dont participate in my dietery needs or followmy diet it does not make him an unsupportive partner as he is supportive in other aspects of my diabetes

more like they would compete

Hi

My wife and father in law would take each other on and intend to win no holds barred.
on another track when the in laws come to stay my Father in law has a track record of borrowing a book to read then saying it is a poor read, (all my favorite authors) last year I lent him under the eagle a good roman yarn if you have not seen it, he read it -then ran off with the whole set - having destroyed them he bought a couple of new sets - then dragged my mother in law the length of Hadrian?s wall - and is now in regular contact with the author!!!!

Hi

My wife and father in law seem to treat any type of illness as a self induced weakness, a matter of mind over matter its up to you to make it go away
talking gets me no where fast. we will have to see where we get to - she is trying to beat her lactose intolerance to death.

I'm with you Steff, what's worse I wouldn't eat brown rice, whole meal past or whole meal bread either, mind you I certainly wouldn't eat pot noodle. Whilst my wife and I tend to eat much the same, she eats what she likes and I eat what I like. I wouldn't dream of telling her to change her eating habits to match mine!
I do wonder from the way you write, what you have in common, you should both tolerate the other and try and understand each other.

There's nothing like healthy competition to bring out the irrational in us all ! :D

You sound like you have your work cut out. Maybe you could demonstrate what happens to you if you don't eat healthily and prove your version of reality (assuming our own versions are equally valid) suits you better ! 😉

Rob

I agree with Steff also to a degree, as if it were the other way round I wouldn't make Rob eat what he didn't want to (although never yet found anything he wont eat, well apart from mushy peas & marmite, luckily something we agree on :D) and I don't.
By the same token if I thought what he was eating was doing him harm or he ate too much of the bad stuff then I would say something. I'd have to.

I do the cooking. I love my man & will do what's right for him! Just how I am

Sarah 🙂

prove your version of reality

Hi

Some how yesterdays funny turn makes me un inclined to make myself ill to prove a point! I did not enjoy it - I was rough for several hours

part of me is assuming that Sam is fighting 2 changes 1 her lactose intolerance then there is me diabetic.

both mess with her perception of reality

Change can be a scary thing. Especially when it's outside of your control. Maybe she needs to maintain her routines for a while to avoid those feeling of being a bit lost we sometimes get. Security blankets and all that. 🙂

I'm sure you can both manage in your own ways.🙂
