How strange is life..
I'm on my first overseas business trip since having my pancreas out.
I'm sitting in my Lisbon hotel room channel hopping trying to find something more interesting than BBC or Sky News.
I clicked on to a German Channel (DW TV) and there is a young boy (no more than 5 or 6) wired up on a tread mill. I thought this was a bit "strange" and then realised the commentary was in English. As I focussed into what they were saying I realised i'd stumbled on a program about diabetes and this boy was undergoing tests to analyse the impact of exercise on his blood sugars. He was then introduced to a long term pumper to discuss hypo recognition.
There were 4 or 5 other stories including showing the insertion of a gastric balloon, a gastric band, someone with an ulcer on a toe with the toe part amputated and then full amputated through to a special shoe.
These were all german diabetics and the hospitals all german
If you can find this program it is well worth a watch - I've never seen anything like it on UK tv.
Watching this almost made up for TAP insisting I could only take one bag on to the plane which meant a lot of repacking of insulin, glucogel, jelly babies, laptop.....very annoyed as they refused to take into account my hospital letter that stated I should be allowed 2 bags.
