I have just listened to The Life Scientific 09:00 on BBC Radio 4

It was with Frances Ashcroft on a lifetime spent studying the link between blood sugar and insulin. Very interesting, although she is clearly not a health professional and is a bit vague about how we all manage on a day to day basis! She specifically discovered the rare form of diabetes caused by a genetic defect, but it has given insight into other possible defects etc

Apparently it will be available soon on BBC iPlayer, I need to listen again!

Just been listening to the radio, programme called the Life Scientific. It featured a scientist called Frances Ashcroft, who discovered the mechanism that causes a rare form of diabetes (when children are born with it). She and another doctor developed a drug treatment that meant these people could come off insulin. She stressed it was v.rare, but also talked at length about the challenge of T2, because she thinks this particular mechanism might also be involved in T2. Makes interesting listening - you could catch it by going along to www.bbc.co.uk/radio4 and doing the listen again option. What I liked was the departure from the usual T2 bashing - she said yes, there are lifestyle issues that mean T2 is getting more prevalent, and maybe she could have more impact if she became an advocate for healthy living, but there are big people who don't have T2 and thin people who do, and she is fascinated by that and wants to get to the bottom of it.

I just have to find this as two people posted it at the same time :D
