Has anyone been on this programme? I would like some feed back if you can be so kind. Many thanks Ted.

Never heard of it sorry...

It doesn’t look to be particularly aimed at diabetes, though I see one of the sessions is about living with leg ulcers in diabetes.

It’s also confined to Torbay in that format. There are other Hope programmes all over the country, mainly aimed at cancer patients and such like.

This is entirely a personal thought, but I think “hope” is an empty word. It’s not an aspiration, but passive, over which you have no control.

‘Hope’ may not affect outcomes Mike but it sure as hell helps the emotional passage through a tough health journey. As the opposite feeling is despair and resignation, I’d go with hope every time.

As I said, that’s an entirely personal view. And while despair and resignation may be the opposite of hope, there are alternatives.

Absolutely, that’s my personal view. I’ve no idea what the alternatives could be except ‘no hope’.

Well, I hope "hope" affects outcomes.

I do too travellor and whilst it may need to be tempered with realism, I think for a condition like diabetes which relies on strong elements of self control and management, this definition of hope is relevant;

Personality psychologists Gene Alarcon, Nathan Bowling, and Steven Khazon provide a nice, succinct comparison;

“Simply put, the optimistic person believes that somehow—either through luck, the actions of others, or one’s own actions—that his or her future will be successful and fulfilling. The hopeful person, on the other hand, believes specifically in his or her own capability for securing a successful and fulfilling future.”

I would love to be able to cycle from John ‘o’ groats to lands end. But I’ve got two hopes . No hope and Bob Hope. and Bob Hopes dead.

Thanks for all your replies, seems there`s a difference of opinion only to be expected. I will go to the first session, Sept. 20th and see what occurs and report back here. As @mikeyB says its the diabetes and leg/foot ulcers meeting I am attending. As this is my first year of halving D I`ll take any help I can get but I still rely on this forum for most of my info to which I give you all thanks.
