I've been trying to fend off a hypo all day, but it finally got me when I wasn't looking. I went to pick the last peas out of the garden and ended up flat out on the grass, shelled a few peas because I figured I needed some fuel. I'd checked about an hour earlier and was at 4.3, but when I finally got back indoors and tested again I was 1.9 with no real symptoms until I fell over! No jelly babies left but did have some bread and jam, so a slice of toast it was. I'm up to 4.8 now and desperately hoping to stay there. I hate these sort of days. 😡

Hope you can get your levels back up soon. Looks like there is a jelly baby fairy around taking your stock, as well as a hypo fairy. :D

Those kind of levels are really horrible, especially when it sneaks up on you. I hope you are feeling better now and that your levels remain steady.

I saw the green absinthe fairy and fell over too.

Toast and jam need to be digested, so not that quick at addressing a hypo. Jelly babies also need to be digested, though will be quicker that toast. Lucozade/dextrose tabs and liquid lucozade are pure glucose and do not need to be digested, so they are much quicker working, particularly when you are down at those very low levels. I suggest you keep some of the aforementioned about your person or readily accessible cos hypo brain is also a lot slower. On this occasion I think your liver might have been helpful by dumping some glucose.

I am aware of all that Patti thanks, but it was all I had at the time (I'd run out of my usual remedies) and the sugar hit from the jam seemed to hit pretty quickly, thank heavens. I'm usually pretty good at having something with me to treat any hypos but hadn't been out much over the preceding days as the pain levels from the RA have been pretty high, unlike my BGs.

ahh, well I suppose the jam would have been quick enough. From time to time Boots or Superdrug have offers on Lucozade tabs, when they do I buy a whole box (30 tubes of tabs) Lasts me a very long time LOL!
