The end of ketone pee sticks?

While at my aborted CGMs fitting I was told by the DSN as I asked again about getting blood Ketone test strips. She advised that they are stopping making the urine ones and that I would need to go onto the abbot blood ones. Anyone else heard this?

First I've heard of it Marc - you'd expect them to go the other way since the blood strips cost twenty times what the pee sticks do.

But pee sticks are less accurate they say what your ketones are half an hour ago bit like glucose ones.

That's very true, but I imagine there would still be a use for them, so can't imagine them being phased out. I had to have a real old argument with my GP to get her to prescribe some Optium blood strips and the last time I ordered some I got given pee sticks instead!

We've only got pee sticks from last year. It may be a PCT decision.

Trust me no one messes with J my DSN. GPs quake when her name is mentioned. But she is prolly one of the people that turned me from a diabetic with a HbA1c of 16% to now one of 6.3%.

I was at an 'education' session last week and the DSN was still talking about using the dip sticks.

I would find this hard to believe given the cheapness of the urine strips to buy for the NHS.

Hiya

I am of the understanding that all type 1 now should be given the blood ketone monitor, there should be no wee sticks used anymore as they are just not accurate. I'm not sure but this could be in NICE. It just comes to mind that I was told this not long ago.

Conversely, my DSN (who has been very on the case in the first few weeks of pumping) wrote to my GP only this week asking for urine strips to be put on my repeat prescription...
