Well i have a good assortment of meters, so i thought i would test them to see how well they would work in the cold (my fridge)

My combo meter, not to good, took less than 5 mins and wanted warming up.

next was a contour next usb meter, 15 mins in the fridge before it needed warming up, same time as the twist meter

But a freestyle lite, just kept on working, got fed up and its been in the freezer for over an hour and still working.

Fridge is at 2 degrees
freezer set at -21 degrees

That's quite a surprise with the Freestyle! My Aviva needed warming up this morning after just being in my bedroom all night! 😱

I remember reading a book by Ranulph Fiennes and Mike Stroud (Survival of the Fittest) which described, among other things, crossing polar regions. As part of their medical research they had to test their blood sugars, although neither is diabetic. One reading came back as 0.6 mmol/l which they said shouldn't be possible. I wasn't diabetic when I read the book, but thinking back I first of all wonder that the meters were working at all, and secondly that it must have been a malfunction, as they wouldn't be walking in those conditions with those readings - they would have been flat on their faces and comatose 😱
