Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
good afternoon,

Until last week I was unaware of this site and knew very little about diabetes. A visit to the doctor last week as a result of me peeing far more often than I was used to changed that. He suspected T2 (I'm 46, several stone overweight). Blood tests showed a BS level of 9.1 (taken at 8.30am after a breakfast of oatsosimple and tea). I went for a fasting blood test on Friday and wasn't expecting anything other than a level well above 7 and so the need for a final test to confirm T2. Today I received the very welcome but shocking news that the result was a reading of 5.5.

I'm not posting to gloat but to say thank you to those who took the time to respond to the message I posted on Friday. I was struggling to come to terms with what I thought I was facing but soon realised after reading the replies I received that the network provided by this site would help me through. I realise I am very lucky. If I had been diagnosed with T2 then at least some of this would be down to me and my failure to look after myself properly. Life must seem unfair to those that look after themselves, exercise, eat well and still have to live with diabetes. From now on I will diet and exercise as if I was diabetic because it is clearly a healthy way to live.

This site is a brilliant resource and a great lifeline to those with diabetes and whose lives are affected by it. There are some great people on here with inspirational stories. I wish each and every one of you the very best of luck, good health and hope that a cure is found very soon. From now on, diabetes charities will be at the top of those I support. Thanks again.

That's terrific news Matthew - really pleased you haven't received a diagnosis 🙂 As you say, it's a big wake-up call for what might have been, and from now on you can make sure you take proper care of yourself and enjoy all the benefits of good health and happiness that will bring 🙂

Feel free to call in any time you wish if you need a bit of extra support or advice, we're happy to help 🙂

Really pleased you got a good result Matthew, and great that it has been a wake up call.🙂
I agree that this forum is a lifeline. I know that I, and others, would have been lost if we had not found it.

That's good news indeed, Matthew, certainly that wake-up call has been well received... Wish you the best for your "new life" & please don't be a stranger here as your story can be counted on as a success.

Thank you. I will definitely keep return to this site. It's a great site with a lot of lovely people on it. Genuinely one of the best uses of the internet I have ever seen.

Thanks Martin. I am not sure it counts as a success yet but the positive changes it will bring to my lifestyle may make it qualify as one in future. One thing it has confirmed is that the internet (not this site) is a massive source of misinformation. From what I read last week, non-diabetics don't get a BS of 9.1/over 140 under any circumstances. The one area where my post may help others is to stop them expecting the diagnosis before it has been officially confirmed. Thanks again for your help.
