I've got to go to hospital for tests today & the thing I'm finding hard is the fact I have to starve.

The hospital have said if I have a hypo, don't take too much sweet stuff & carbs to counter act the hypo.

It's breakfast time in 20 mins & I'm bloody hungry.

Anyone else had to starve for tests? If so how the hell did you cope?

I usually manage to get early morning appointments for fasting tests, so not too much of a problem, plus as a T2 I don't get hypos so I count myself lucky! I've been told that fruit/herbal tea without milk (with artificial sweetener) is OK, and that keeps me going. Hope the results are worth the effort!

I go as early as possible too. When I asked if it was ok to have a cuppa they said it was OK as long as there is no milk or sugar in it, so black tea helps stave the pangs of hunger off, or warm water.

Thanks guys.
I tried the warm water but my stomach complained so much I ended up eyeing the fruit.

I pray for an early release so I can eat coz walking into the kitchen was pure torture

Whenever I'm fasting for basal tests or whatever I find it best to drink water by the pint and, perhaps more importantly, to keep really busy.

Nothing worse than sitting there waiting for the minutes to pass. Keeping my mind entirely focussed on something else (preferably something physical) stops me thinking about food 🙂

What time is your appointment?

9.30, I had to ring to let them know I was diabetic & a type 1 as my consultant had failed to inform the hospital.
They said I may not be seen til 10 onwards.

I'm running high at the moment given the situation with grandad but am feeling light headed & weak

Hate having to fast for tests too, I just don't like being hungry but try to compensate by filling up on liquids and keeping busy to take my mind off it. How ask went okay today.
