Testing then Injecting - how long?

Hi all,

I started a thread yesterday re eating out which lead me to do this thread.

When doing a test before a meal how long should you go before injecting?

I think the important thing is the time between injecting and then eating rather than testing and injecting (within reason if you intend to take a correction dose with your food insulin).
The problem then is that what you are eating can change the timing of the injection in relation to the food quite a lot. In general, though, when I am eating out, I tend to inject at the table once I've seen the food in front of me and calculated the insulin or just after I have eaten. (Remember that some places take a lot longer to serve than you might imagine.)
Sorry not to be more specific, but this works for me. You will find out yourself what works for you.
That's one of the difficulties with diabetes - nothing is written in stone, and what works for me may or may not work for you.

(I think your best bet, is to eat out as much as possible till you find out what works for you )
