I know what you mean, N-J ! My hospital clinic had a new consultant - and he was the typical new guy thought he had to lecture and explain things in detail to me, which after 40+ years living with the thing, frankly, grated on me. He has toned it down a bit now and relaxed a bit - but he just isn't 'my mate' - which I actually felt the Main Man who I was seeing previously, was.

I have thought I got the new one for the same reason, cos I was doing OK. I was also asked if I still wanted to be seen every 6 months - I actually said that I wouldn't mind if one of them was 'just' seeing the nurse. However having had the situation where when I was otherwise ill and struggling more than a little with my D and couldn't get a hospital appointment whatsoever for nearly 3 years - I absolutely didn't want to 'give up my safety net'.

I do know very well that I am quite likely to take my eye off the ball cos I've done it in the past - so I'd far rather have someone keeping tabs on me! I had a nasty reminder that D doesn't always play along nicely if you just assume it will, last year, and you know it was also very painfully obvious that my body ain't as young as it was! I did NOT like that.

Just because we are 'doing OK' right now does NOT mean we always will for the foreseeable future and too many assumptions are still made by the NHS about that.
