Testing Strips & Lancets...about...

to get my first supply of testing strips & lancets on prescription from Dr Maximum Medication after nine months of self funding...as stated earlier I have written to the local Clinical Commissioning Group asking them to justify their 'blanket' ban on provision of meters/strips for type 2's not on meds that can cause hypos...disappointingly...but not surprisingly I still await their response...watch this space!

Yep...both right...they are...had an email acknowledge...stated hope to respond in 5 working days...that was on the 30th of March...waiting...give them enough rope to?...if they decide to intervene with my Dr's decision...without any consideration of the points I have raised...will let them have it...saving their non response as 'a jury point'😉.

Me too grovesy...seems to be all about tactics...how shameful we have to practically engage in 'battle'...to get something which is invaluable in managing a chronic ...potentially debilitating lifelong condition.

No grovesy neither am I...but... not backing off....if we all did it they would have to sit up & take notice...tired of hearing my GP & others cannot prescribe testing strips/meters...all about the CCG's...have read the minutes of my local CCG meetings on this topic...quite brutal how they exclude type 2's...seems arbitrary...no logic or rationale given...how hypocritical of them to sit back...issue directives...yet...when those who self fund (if they can afford to)...manage to exercise good control of their diabetes...accept those results without question...give themselves a pat on the back...even smugly use it to justify their cry of 'the HbA1c test is sufficient' for managing those type 2's not on hypo inducing medication...we all know that's not accurate...without drawing it to their attention...we're unlikely to hear any different from this bunch of overly privileged administrators...or at least be able to engage them in some meaningful discussion.

Im going to start the ball rolling to then for asking for them on prescription as mine refuses too with the blanket statement you'll give yourselves depression sorry that's the other way about ta. I believe if more and more of us do this they will have to take notice surely well in theory at any rate.

I was also left in the dark about a lot of things but saying that T1s are not fairing any better on care sadly well in my area at any rate.

Suggest you put it in writing to him Dolly...ask him to send a copy of your letter to your local CCG if they raise any issues...that way we can all be clear about who said what to whom...and he'll be obliged to respond...let him justify his decision...if he can.

An update on the CCG...finally had a response from my local Clinical Commissioning Group on my GP supplying my testing strips on prescription...firstly quoting me the NICE guidelines in detail...frankly read so much the NICE guidelines feel I could write a book on them...followed by more distracting nonsense...then we get to the important part...I quote...' If your GP feels they wish you to test outside the National Guidance, they have the freedom to prescribe, and clearly your GP has chosen to do so, if, as an individual you are getting a benefit from blood glucose testing and you are finding a benefit over and above urine testing, your GP may continue to prescribe. However NICE do not support routine testing for the majority of patients'...how noble & grand of them...a small victory...but...satisfying.
