Accu-chek (along with Ascensia/Contour Xt) have always been at the top-end of the price list for test strips unfortunately. And they seem to keep a fairly tight rein on their distributors to keep pricing fairly consistent I think?
The most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50, and both seem to perform well.
I buy mine from Boots. Order them at the pharmacy counter and you get them a lot cheaper than just picking them from the shelf and paying at the normal counter.
