Long trip to London today for 6 monthly check up, had all the usual tests done before I saw the consultant and I must say first that I was a little disappointed with my HbA1c of 5.3 as I have been trying very hard to get it up into the 6s and was delighted when my Freestyle gave me a 90 day result of 6.3 this morning before I left home. However she was pleased I had my Freestyle with me and took it off and came back with the last 3 weeks readings and showed me where changes had to be made and I gave her my pump and with my permission she made some alterations to my basal rates that should help. I was then told she was going to put me on the list to get my sensors as and when they became available and they had been working hard to achieve this for us.

However I was delighted with the cholesterol test that 10 days ago was 7.5 and was 6.2 this morning as I have only been taking my new tablets on alternate days (not statins) for 8 days.

So all in all it was a good achievement.

I don't that much about insulin users. Why would you be disappointed with 5.3 instead of 6.2?

Sounds like they are working hard on your behalf to get your levels to a safe and stable level 🙂 And great news about the cholesterol! 🙂 I hope you get the sensors soon 🙂

Ralph-YK I have been trying to get up to the 6s for a long time because the Dr that put me on the pump convinced me that I was having too many hypos while I kept down in the 5s and after living with diabetes for nearly 55 years I was certainly getting fed up with having hypos as I have no awareness of going low before a hypo. There is now a course coming up called DAFNE HarpDoc in London and I was asked to think about going to it as it is for us that have lost total awareness of hypos.

I would really recommend HARPDoc to you @jusme (which I think is the DAFNE Harp they meant?) - it’s something I came across a couple of years ago and is currently being trialled at Kings, Guys St Thomas and also in Bournemouth, Sheffield and Boston US. Someone I know who went on it says it absolutely changed their life!

I believe they may be able to help with travel expenses if you don’t live close to the hospital.

Thank you for that information Mike trust me not to hear it correctly. I was told someone is going to phone me and tell me all about it so I will get my ears washed out before then!

Thank you Bamba for giving me the lead to follow. Wow what a lot to take in and I am not sure if I could follow it for 6 weeks living so far away but it sure leaves me time to consider it.

I think it is only 6 Sessions @jusme - spread out the time. Some group sessions and some one-on-one. Worth speaking to them if you think you might fit their criteria as they were keen to fill as many courses as possible for the study.
