Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Seven months since diagnosed. Treatment diet only. Lowest meter reading 4.6 highest 6.8 How often should I test and what is the best time of day for accurate testing please. I am new to this and I don't have much idea of what I'm doing yet. Don't have to return to clinic until August.

If you test before a meal, about 1 hour afterwards and/or 2 hours afterwards, you should be able to tell what your highest BG rise is.

Those figures sound pretty good, so if you carry on as you are you won't go far wrong, providing that is the highest.

You may find it will progress and you'll need meds or it might not. The key is to accept it as it is and take what's necessary.🙂

Thanks Rob. Is it certain to progress and is there a time that it will do so no matter how strictly i stick to the diet?
Mick.

People are often told that diabetes will inevitably progress, but that does not necessarily seem to be the case for everyone.

By reducing/moderating carb intake some T2s seem to be able to hold their D at bay for 10 years with no apparent progression. Others seem to need oral meds/insulin no matter how careful they are.

I suspect it has quite a bit to do with genes, and also the variability in the wide variety of conditions that seem to make up T2

If you are looking for a good framework for testing, look in the 'useful links' thread in the Newbie section for 'Jennifers Advice' - its served a lot of people very well

My Doc advised me to take a reading once a day first thing in the morning before breakfast which i do I keep a record on the free software from abbots web site 'Co pilot' then just before my check up i e-mail it to him and we discuss the readings along with my HbA1c results.🙂

Hi Mike. Thanks for your information and advice Will do as you suggest. Coping with the DB I think mainly because I don't yet know much about it. Hope all is going ok with you. Best regards, Mick.
