Hi, i don't usually drink fizzy drinks but this afternoon i've had half a can of the above. I hadn't eaten since 1.30pm and at 6pm felt sweaty and dizzy so checked blood sugars thinking they might be low. They came out at 9.6! How on earth can that be and has anyone else had raised blood levels after drinking a diet drink. I have re-checked the can to see if it contains sugar and it doesn't. Feeling confused.

Sorry to hear this :( Does it contain carbs at all? Some sweeteners are still carbs, even if not actual sugar. Another possibility is that you have an infection brewing and the high levels are coincidental. Any idea what your levels were like before drinking the pop? You could try repeating the experiment to see if it really is responsible.

Carbs are supposed to be .1g, maybe it was a reaction to the concentrated lemon juice (2%)? Shouldn't really have that much effect. Could it be that your liver decided to do a glucose dump because you hadn't eaten? Did you recheck your BG reading as you may have been low with sticky finger?
