This is a bad time of the year for me as the Jersey Royals (potatoes) and strawberries hit the shops. I am so tempted, especially as I prepare my favourites for the rest of the family. Sometimes I am naughty and have 4 or 5 strawberries or one small potato. What to others miss? 🙂

Iv bought my family Jersey Royals but I dont touch them but strawberries on the other hand I can't resist so I make sure I have 2 or 3...I so miss my fruit x

I love jersey royals and do have a couple. I miss mash , mind you I don't miss peeling spuds :D
Jacket potatoes are off the menu now :(

I am so lucky - even as a T2 on insulin, I can eat bucket loads of fruit - I have potatoes every evening meal.

Scottish strawberries will be in the shops in a couple of weeks - yea!!!!

Had two jersey royals on Tuesday but giving rest away to daughter as I've got a wobbly tooth so struggling to bite. I have a couple of strawberries, but don't have grapes

Well, strawberries are one of the best fruits you can choose, and new potatoes are much lower GI than mash 🙂 So I hope you will allow yourself a treat whilst they are at their best 🙂

Absolutely eat em. Let's face it, teeny Jerseys are only in the shops for 5 minutes and they're expensive so not like we buy a ton - so blooming well enjoy em when you can! Love em - and proper strawbs that haven't been irradiated and actually taste of strawberries!

The bag we bought in Aldi at the weekend was smaller than normal new potatoes.

I thought we were allowed 'new' potatoes? I'm sure I read that somewhere...rather than mash it said.

It's hard work isn't it thinking about everything before you eat it, (can I, should I, only one, maybe two won't hurt, that looks nice NO you can't have it ) gives me brain ache lol. Strawberries are hard to resist but then again so is chocolate, and Jersey new potatoes aggggghhhhhhh. Rant over.

The Muggles just take it for granted! 🙄 I hadn’t realised just how much my pancreas did for me until it stopped working properly and I became a Type 1 diabetic. What a thing of beauty a fully-functioning pancreas is!

Ode to a Perfect Pancreas

Oh Pancreas, perfect Pancreas,
Oh will you please be mine?
And let me feel the touch of your
Secretions endocrine?

My own dear pancreas failed me
And has left me in the lurch
What can I do to make you mine
And end my ceaseless search?

I love your Islets of Langerhans,
Suffused with treasured stores
Of beta cells, all working well,
A credit to their cause!

The insulin that you put forth,
Oh! If it only could
Restrict the upper limits of
The sweetness in my blood!

You’d be the organ of my dreams,
I’d always treat you well,
And if I could I’d lavish love
On each and every cell!

Oh please, O perfect pancreas,
Your functioning’s divine,
So let me be the one for you –
Your Type 1 Valentine!

Brilliant poem. It put a smile on my miserable face today.

Love your poem Alan, it made me smile, thank you. We also grow our own new potatoes and strawberries so it is a struggle not to be naughty! I have a feeling that I may fall off the wagon a few times in the next month or so LOL 🙂 Promise to be good soon 🙂 Yes I really miss fruit too, oh well, there are lots of other things like asparagus 🙂

I don't view it as I can't have anything, if I want something I have to forgo something else. If I want Kettle chips, then I won't have a few beers and so on. For me it doesn't make a food out of bounds because I can have it if I really want it, then I don't crave or desire it. But it's each to their own
