Nearly a quarter of diabetes patients at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford have been affected by medication errors in the past two years, new figures have revealed.

According to a study from the National Diabetes Inpatient Audit, a total of 23 per cent of patients with the condition experienced at least one medication error during hospital stays there ? below the UK average of 32.4 per cent.

The figures for the Princess Royal showed that it looked after 48 diabetes patients in 2010 and 50 last year over the seven-day audit period, with the 23 per cent error rate remaining unchanged in both years.

Under the audit medication errors were recorded under two types ? either as prescription errors or medication management errors.
