Diabetes UK would like to say a huge thanks to all the 157 runners who took part in the London Marathon on Sunday 24 April as part of Team Diabetes UK.

Having been cheered to the finish line by Diabetes UK supporters at miles 12, 22 and 24, the runners are already on course to raise over £200,000 amount of money to support our work.

Anna Schlerf, Fundraising Events Manager at Diabetes UK, said: “We are so proud of all our runners for taking on such a massive challenge for Team Diabetes UK and we send a huge congratulations and a massive thank you to all of them for putting in the months of training and dedication to support us.”

Well done to everyone! 🙂

Thanks to all London Marathon runners raising funds for Diabetes UK and all charities.
Regarding the army officer who died, clearly he must have had an underlying circulation problem, but he may not have had any symptoms, so wouldn't have taken himself to GP / medical centre to report problem. Or he might have had an inkling of a problem, but not wanted to be stopped running or put his army career at risk. He might have had an ECG and blood cholesterol test when he joined, depending on his personal and family medical history, but in the at least 5 years it takes from entering Sandhurst as an officer cadet to being due to promotion from Captain to Major, he probably had no routine checks. Similar to even younger footballers who collapse with heart problems.
