- Relationship to Diabetes
- Type 1
Since the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was founded in 1970, the Walk to Cure Diabetes has been the organization's signature event. Over the years it has assembled millions of people in good weather and bad and has raised billions of dollars for type 1 diabetes research while educating the world about this very serious disease and it's complications. Many people think type 1 diabetes can be cured with insulin. While insulin does keep people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is not a cure. Aside from the daily challenges of living with type 1 diabetes (blood sugar highs and lows, multiple finger pricks, port changes, hormonal upsets and more) there are many severe and often fatal complications caused by the disease.
