Hi Taz, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but please don't panic! Diabetes is a serious condition, but it is something that you can learn to manage well with the right amount of effort and knowledge. Many people find that the adaptations they make to their diet and activity levels actually results in them feeling happier and healthier than they have done for some time.
Have you been given any medication for your diabetes? How did you come to be diagnosed? A good place to start is by reading
Jennifer's Advice and
Maggie Davey's letter. I would also recommend getting a copy of
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. All this should give you a good understanding and grounding in what you need to do to restore your health. Try not to get overwhelmed by everything, and take things one step at a time - this is often described as a marathon, not a sprint, so take time to understand things - you don't have to totally transform your life from Day 1
🙂
Something that is very useful is to start a food diary so that you can see exactly what your diet consists of. Record everything you eat and drink, and try to include the amount of carbohydrate in everything. After recording this for a week or two you can start looking at areas that might be improved by either reducing portions or substituting high carbohydrate items with lower carb ones e.g. fewer potatoes and more green veg.
Please let us know if you have any questions - nothing is considered 'silly', so if it is confusing or bothering you, then ask!
