Tamworth people are being asked to think twice about whether they need to go to A&E or if they would get more appropriate treatment at another NHS facility as pressure on local emergency departments continues to rise.

Historically most people, if they need the NHS, consider visiting either their GP or A&E or dialling 999 but the NHS offers many more ways for people to get the right treatment.

Health chiefs at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham and Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield are reminding people that minor accidents which don’t need emergency treatment include cuts, sprains and rashes.

Anyone suffering these should visit local walk-in centres where they will be seen by a doctor or nurse. An appointment is not needed and walk-in centres also offer advice about non-urgent conditions.
