My Grandson returned from trick or treat last night with goodies including a packet of tamarind balls from Barbados. I've encountered tamarind as a seasoning, but not sugar coated as a snack (62% carbs apparently)

A hasty Google search revealed an article from BBC Good Food Guide listing 6 health benefits of plain tamarind fruit and its pulp. The 6th claims tamarind assists those with diabetes in blood glucose control.

Anyone got any experience with this fruit? Ignoring the 3 x sugar coated balls that are currently in the house!

All I know is it is used a lot in Asian cookery.

I love tamarind. I have a lovely chutney/relish with tamarind and ginger. I’m not sure if I’ve noticed any blood sugar effects, but it’s very, very delicious!
