Taking part in USTEKID study

Am proud and excited to say that Alice is taking part in the above study for newly diagnosed children and young people. It is testing the effectiveness of taking Ustekinumab - a drug already used for other purposes, in prolonging the existence of insulin producing cells in the early stages of diagnosis.
We go to the Royal London Hospital on Friday for first tests etc to see if Alice is suitable and then start the trial the following Friday. Alice is really keen to do this as she sees it as something positive to do, despite still really struggling with needles and dreading having another cannula inserted.

I think I remembered as you gave us some feedback on some of the findings and no many have reported been involved in research.

Hope the trial is successful, and well done to Alice for doing something so positive. Is it a double-blind trial with a placebo arm? I wonder which side she will be on?!

Yes double blind. Two out of three get the drug. We spent yesterday at the Royal London and will find out by next week if she is eligible - they basically need her to still have enough functioning cells in order for the treatment to have the potential to work.
I think she will be suitable, as her bs didn't go up that high when she did the glucose tolerance test yesterday. They also did a chest x-ray and she doesn't have TB! All good!!
