I just re read your posts more carefully and see that you are on insulin - if you are no longer making insulin then you must take enough to support activity through your cell membranes - but if it is 'just' to help lower your blood glucose then I suggest that you lower the amount of carbohydrate you are eating.
That is simply because my results, in six months have been totally brilliant.
91 to 41 - I walked home stunned when I got 47 after 3 months, but 41 - and it was easy.
Lunch today was a huge salad, eggs cheese radish, coleslaw tomato cucumber celery, green salad from a bag and then coffee with cream and a dash of cinnamon - I can do this so easily.
I have to admit that I don't test my BG these days, as it was always under 7 after eating it seemed no longer important. I checked regularly at first, before and after meals, but the readings went down and down the longer I stuck to low carb.
If the problem is lack of control over your own person then lowering blood glucose by your own efforts feels very good to me.

Wow good results. As far as I can remember they told me my body does not make it's own insulin and that I would have to stay on it for life. I do watch what I eat and cut out sugar in tea and cereal. Eat sweet potato instead of white and have a green salad with my main meal. Cut portions down and my inbetween meals are either Activia yoghurt or cracker bread with mild cheddar cheese. 2 it water a day and a few diet Coles...I think that enough. I don't eat much meat other than lean mince boiled and seasoned....

Wendy...please speak to your doctor or nurse before you make a final decision on whether to continue with your medication...what works for one type 2 does not necessarily work for another...we are all different...I doubt it is due to a lack of control on your part...you seem to be making a real effort...you have reduced your levels...considerably...no reason why you cannot continue that...possibly as simple as adjusting your medication (after discussion with your practice)...or diet...your motivation is commendable...we can't compare like for like in managing our diabetes...we are all different...things affect us all differently...speak to your nurse...you seem to have a good relationship with her...set realistic targets...achievable ones...this is not a race...do things at your own pace...that way more likely to be sustainable long term.

I have taken everyone's support on board and will call my diabetic nurse this afternoon. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.x
Well done Wendy...absolutely the right thing to do...let us know how you get on.

You must take insulin if you have no production yourself - all those carbohydrate rich foods will spike your blood glucose dangerously high - your body needs insulin to have any chance of dealing with what you are eating.
Sweet potato has more carbs than ordinary ones, cereals put my blood glucose levels up for hours - even eating a tiny amount just to see what happened. They are no longer on my menu.

Hi Wendy, hope you manage to talk to your nurse.
Can I suggest you ask to go on MDI (Multi dose injections) This way you are in control (in theory) 🙂 instead of having to feed the mixed insulin. Thus on MDI you can adjust your insulin to your needs.
Try very hard not to get bogged down by your diabetes and expect instant results. Rome wasn't built in a day. 🙂 I find the best thing to do if having a bad day is say sod it, tomorrows another day. Remember your meter delivers a number and that's all it is a number that needs correcting with some grub or extra insulin.

I am pleased that you are discussing with your D nurse. But we are all here for you, we may not be able to change the situation etc. but we are here to listen. Never feel alone with D we are all in it together.

I'm glad you've decided to contact your nurse, Wendy. 🙂On this forum we all know how frustrating this diabetes lark can be but you don't have to go it alone. Let us know how you get on.😛

Hello Wendy - how are things now?
Have you got your test results back? Any advice from the nurse?
I was thinking - could the extra unit of insulin you decided to add be causing you to go low during the night, so your liver is reacting by putting out extra glucose when you test in the morning?
I do not use insulin, but I know it is a tricky thing to manage and some consequence can be mystifying.

Hi Drummer. Thank you for your support. I did get my results back and they have come down from 3 months ago from 62 and it's now 58. They are pleased with my readings, but like most have said to me that things can change and readings will change. I think even stress can give a change in the numbers. The increase in my insulin did start to bring it down for a few days, but now gone back up to 8 +. Not going to stress about it now but rather wait and see what happens. All other functions are normal.... Another day gone but will try to take it all in my stride...

That's good - your are averaging closer to 9 than 10, in mmol/l terms - in the past, and your testing is now below 9 - that is improvement.
Stress is well known for putting up BG levels, so trying to be more laid back about the situation can only do good.

Ok thank you for that info. Never found out how they work all these readings and come up with a certain number. If there has been an improvement then it's all good. Have a good evening and thanks again.

Sorry I'm late and sorry you've been struggling Wendy. I hope you are getting the help and support you need.
I'm not on insulin myself and others here can advise better than me.
Diet: my HbA1c changed without me changing my diet. It's not just down to diet. I know it's difficult to cope with and know what to do.

My understanding is meat, fat and some other foods don't really affect BG. It's carbohydrates in particular that do, which is why sometimes people bang on about them. However, it is possible to eat some without it have a massive effect. It depends on what you have, and apparently what with it.

Spot on, Ralph. Meat, fish, eggs, shellfish are the basis of my diet. I add masses of low carb foods, mostly ten percent carbs or less, and I eat the fats which come with the meat etc, and add olive oil and peanut oil for cooking and salad dressing. I was getting low blood glucose readings, but did not lose weight until I added in strawberries and cream. I really could not complain about a low carb diet
