Taking a Break from the Forum

I have decided to make a break from this forum for a while. Since I voiced an opinion on a thread that was subsequently deleted I feel that some individuals have decided that I have a hidden agenda. Earlier this week I started a thread on ?Non-Compliance In Teenage Diabetes?. This is a serious problem which has been highlighted over the years including an episode of Channel 4?s ?The Hospital? three years ago. However the conspiracy theorists decided that I posted it to attack them and stir things up. I do not have the answer to the problem but felt that people might benefit from discussing the issue. There were some interesting posts but sadly the discussion was not allowed to develop fully.

A forum is a place for the exchange of ideas, discussion and debate. However it seems that here if you have a different option too many people take it personally. It has even been suggested to me that I could leave the forum! I could add more but will not as the post would probably be deleted.
In the next few weeks I will be looking at other diabetes support forums both in the UK and other countries, including the US and Australia.

I do feel that there has been a large dose of misunderstanding going on here. It is all too easy to read things into posts that aren't necessarily there (I'm as guilty of that as the next person!).

But care needs to be taken on both sides to avoid these situations. I hope we can find a way to stop them happening again.

Once again it sounds like I missed all the fun! Only kidding Stephen I hope you return soon.

It is sometimes hard to write to a group of strangers in a way that you would talk to them in a pub or similar place, I know I have that problem and I don't believe that any person comes here with any bad intentions or even gets any enjoyment or pleasure out of upsetting other members but it can and does happen, usually because you can't see the emotions in words as easily as you would a face.

It is sad to think a forum member is leaving, when I bet the people that have disagreed or worse and the person leaving would probably get on really well in reall life.

Agreed and some of the misunderstanding is deliberate 😡 The usual suspects then come out of the woodwork shouting foul, then once they have their own way it's off to their normal haunt. 🙄

Stick with it Stephen your thoughts and questions are very thought provoking and hopefully will make people think before proclaiming they know it all and are always right.

Have read the 'offending' thread and think some people wanted to treat the subject as an academic debate whereas others are far too close to the subject to be so detached.

Didn't take part on the thread as not much to say really.

I don't think that's the case. I've only been a member of this forum for a few weeks, but haven't seen anything I thought was poorly moderated. Stephen's thread on non-compliance in teenage diabetics was an interesting debate - we don't all have to agree with each other all the time. But hopefully we can all agree to be sensitive in expressing our differing opinions. It seems to me there's a pretty diverse group of people on this forum 🙂

I'm only just back online, after 1 day working in Northampton, then 3 days on a race in Lake District, then driving south via Birmingham. So, not able to moderate with no mobile device, and even if I had one, no mobile signal.

I completely agree with you.🙂There will always be a difference of opinion - thats just life - but do think the Moderators all acted very well and stepped in when needed without causing any ill-feeling. It's a difficult job moderating such diverse groups on what can be sensitive issues and think they did their job which is all that should be asked of them.🙂Bev
