Last night I made a huge batch of tablet - needed to perfect my old recipe as I'm making it for wedding favours for my brothers wedding- as usual the boys had to help and so I promised ben he could have a bit with his lunch. Have always guesstimated the carbs fairly well in home baking before but this is a first! Have plumped for 75% carbs. Will see what his next readings are though he did hypo before lunch so poss will be a bit high anyway. It tastes fantastic if I say so myself!

I'm glad you dont know what it is either Steffie, I'd thought it was a northern thing 🙂
 
Salivation has commenced, however tablet is totally out of the question till I get my wisdom tooth filled, this afternoon......:D
 
Tis toffee Steffie, I asked my Scottish friend and this is what she said:

"comes in a slab and looks like fudge but it's usually hard. I find it too sweet, a lot of sugar in it".

Some folks is like toffee but true tablet is not at all chewy like toffee. It's in the same family as fudge though a bit harder - you need a very sweet tooth to enjoy it. If anyone wants to sample some pm me your address and i'll have some winging its way to you in no time!! A bit like me its a true Scottish delight😉

Hi Ruth,
From what I can work out if tablet is a cross between fudge and toffee it would work out to about 75 carbs per 100 gms or 25 carbs/oz
Only other option is to tot up the totals for all the ingredients and divide by ever how many pieces.
My tummy is now rumbling 🙂
 
Thanks for that - i'm quite impressed with my guesswork there at 75%.
 
Well it's snack time and ben's blood is 3.8 so maybe guessed a little too high although he did leave some crusts from his sandwich at lunch so maybe that's it - either way he's over the moon he can get another wee bit now!
 
ooh Ruth, I haven't had tablet for a lifetime, will you share some, or give recipe to someone stranded in the south! (though I'm not a Scot) - could use for hypos!

on a different note, I loved the hourly check after certain foods, some of you are so good, I think I spike after everything, hate to give up eating food that isn't actually bad for me (ie good levels of carbs, fat etc), but will try experimenting
