It is 5 years to the day since I had my pancreas and various other bits removed🙂🙂🙂🙂 (one smiley face for each of my 'ectomies')

So it's my 5th diaversary and various other 'versaries too!

I'm delighted to say that I'm fit and well (and causing chaos!) and enjoying life. Diabetes is a small price to pay for being here, as I really, really shouldn't be here😱. To say the odds were stacked against me, is an understatement.

When I had my operation in Southampton, it was hot like now. I can remember roaming the corridors with my drip stands trying to find somewhere cool - an impossible task.

I want to say thank you again to all my mates on this forum - who have helped and supported me immeasurably. I wouldn't be in such a good position today without you all.😎

Whoopee! Here's to the next 5 years, and many more 5 yearses after that!

Fabulous Susan! 🙂 Happy Diaversary + AllTheOtherVersaries! :D A real pleasure to know you and have met you, here's to many, many more years! 🙂 Have you reminded your surgeon of the date?

Happy 'versary!

Have you baked yourself a ceramic cake? 🙂

Treated myself and friends to a real one! (Ceramic ones cause probs with one's teeth:D)

Yes I have. Unfortunately I'll always be the pinnacle of his career, as he's had to stop operating due to MS. I'm going to see him at the end of the month for my annual check up.

Congrats on your diaversary and being fit and well.

Congratulations on the anniversary!
Long may you continue to be above ground, upright and breathing in and out.
I too had the pleasure of the same surgeon undertaking a significant "re plumbing" of my digestive system, in my case a whipples procedure, to remove an insulin producing tumor, some eight years ago. It is tragic that he is no longer able to operate.
I was warned I may come out of surgery a diabetic, or if not it was a treat I had to look forward to as I got older. Little did I realise that would be as I turned 50. The irony that a tumor that produced insulin has put me in the position that I will need to inject insulin is not lost on me!

Happy everything versary Susan.

Happy ectoversary :D. I for one am glad you're a medical marvel. What a shame the surgeon who is clearly an excellent practitioner can't operate anymore, I do hope he gets a slice of cake too!
