For me I would never have gone as low carb as I did if I hadn't bought a BG meter and tested each meal for the first few weeks in order to see the effect.
If I hadn't gone so low carb I may still have reduced my Hba1C from 53, but there is no way it would have been 45 so quickly. In fact I doubt it would have been in the pre-diabetic range.
@Vonny So far as weight loss and BMI is concerned, those things don't directly relate to health. Certain athletes are Obese even though in their case it may be more muscle than fat causing the weight. Being metabolically healthy should be the main goal and there are metabolically healthy Obese people just as there are normal BMI (or even skinny) people who are metabolically unhealthy but probably don't realise it!
