Our data show that PAD patients without diabetes are at a similar risk [to] CAD patients with diabetes. In patients with PAD and T2DM, the risk is exceedingly high.

The multivariate analysis adjusts for a bunch of things including HbA1c, lipids and BP, but not for PAD severity metrics (ABI, walking distance etc). The authors don't discuss this as a weakness, which seems very odd to me.

Anyway, my takeaways:

- PAD is way underdiagnosed but its generally more serious than much better-recognised coronary artery problems.
- If you are eg finding it progressively more difficult to walk, try to get yr doc to check you out for PAD. It's an easy diagnosis to make.
- If you have it, ignore the frikkn Internet and the opinions of unqualified posters on message boards and take yr statins (and normalise your BP and BG).
