Hi everyone. I was diagnosed T2 in 2017. Initially I was managing it with diet and exercise and my HbA1c was sitting in the low 30s. At the end of October I caught covid and ended up in hospital. I was put on dexamethasone, a steroid and due to being diabetic they were testing my bloods regularly. As expected my levels shot through the roof to the low 30s. I was put on insulin in hospital which eventually brought my numbers down and only this week, a full month on I'm in normal range (mostly). The frightening thing is that I hadn't had my routine 6 monthly checks for 20 months due to covid. When they checked my HbA1c I was at 72! To say I was shocked is an understatement. Originally I was told because I was T2 I didn't need to monitor my own levels. Lesson learned. Now been told it's likely I'll be on insulin permanently.
For me this has been just like being diagnosed all over again (does that make sense).
So, hi there, nice to meet you all. I'm sure I'll have questions to ask on three forum in the coming months as I adapt to my new situation.
