Been away some time - last post was Nov 2009 when I had just been diagnosed as T2 - I have been through the whole spectrum of drugs - metformin, glicazide and pioglitlazone coupled with Byetta - Hb1ac has always been in the 8 to 9 range. Docs patience has run out and he is now putting me on Levemir and dropping the Byetta and Gliclazide. Anybody else had this sort of experience? I'm pretty philosophical in that I knew this day would come but still a little confused as to why now - I'm 48 with my dad and sister both T2's - clearly the cards were stacked against me. Any insight would be welcomed. I will try and not stay away too long this time!! Alan

Hi Arbian,

I was Diagnosed T2 September 2016, and I have managed to get my BS under control quite well from reading forums speaking to people and doing allot of research and food experimenting to find out what sends my bloods hi and to avoid them.

After 7 yrs you should have an idea what sends you Hi ? My Diabetic Nurse basicly told me that she wasnt going to tell me what to do as it was down to me to learn to control it and find out about it, I thought this was a bit harsh at first but her reasoning was shes advised people in the past and they chose to ignore her then blame here when she does there bllods and there higher than they were the previous time.

My advice and it was advice given to me on another forum was to get your self a meter if you havnt got one and eat to your meter i.e test before and 2hrs after you have eaten then if your bllods are high you can then figure out whet it was you ate that caused it. I have found carbs i.e rice potatos pasta bread etc send me high so i avoid them and find substitutes or have very small portions of those. there is allot of info out there.

Welcome back.
Many who have been put on Insulin have felt better for doing so.

Good to hear all your views as the next step for me is insulin

Hi Arbain, Welcome back. I went in insulin just over a year ago , started just on a basal (background) insulin along with Gliclazide. I'd was taken off metfartin because of my kidneys and as for the Gliclazide, I might have well been on smarties.
So now I'm on a mealtime (bolus) insulin as well, I am feeling much much better in myself , my control has improved enormously , yours will too
Please don't be scared or worried about insulin, imho it has far more pros than cons !
I've had a quick read of your previous posts. Going by them it seems you have tried really hard, maybe your pancreas is no longer able to produce enough insulin . I am sorry to hear your doc has lost patience with you, T 2 can be progressive and in the end try as we might, insulin is the only way forward.

Hi and a warm welcome I've been diabetic since 09 and on insulin for a month now that was after trying pills and then victoza . it was slow to start working for me but I'm not happily getting figures nearer to 10 then the 20 u used to altho still sole work to go. Good luck
