T Slim pump settings

My diabetes has been moody & dramatic until a few weeks ago. I’d had a few really low hypos & resulting rebound highs that I chased down for hours. I felt really hacked off with it all.

I’ve found the sleep function on the TSlim pump to be great. I haven’t had a nighttime hypo for over a year but I hadn’t used the activity/exercise setting due to my leg being in a cast & on crutches long term. It didn’t seem like something I would ever use.

For the last few weeks my diabetes has been really stable & calm- I know! I shouldn’t rattle its cage- but I couldn’t work out why. I checked my cgm readings with a glucose meter and they were ok. I tapped my pump a few times to make sure it hadn’t frozen or anything technical. I noticed when changing my cartridge/cannula- I use a magnifying lamp as I’m partially sighted- the exercise mode was on- a small figure with go faster stripes. I didn’t set it intentionally but must have pressed it somehow.

Anyhow the exercise/activity setting is helping my levels so much, it’s only tiny tweaks and micro changes in insulin but what a good difference. The setting slightly increases target glucose and my levels have been better and my daily total is about 2 units less.

I sometimes think there’s no point in tweaking if things are good enough but unintentionally setting activity mode was a happy error. I’m sticking with it for now- activity mode all day & sleep mode at night.

Ah that’s really great to hear @Flower

Yes Sleep Mode was absolutely brilliant for me too.

I think the modes (Sleep and Exercise) just slightly tweak the parameters that the pump works with, and what actions it takes. Great that you’ve found Exercise Mode suits your diabetes so well!

When a hybrid loop kind of ‘clicks’ with what your diabetes needs at that time, they can take away so much diabetes faff - It’s hardly like having diabetes at all!

The reduction in general management faff when things click with HCL is very welcome & a great feeling. I’d forgotten what it felt like not to be constantly aware of diabetes and to have some headspace back. I really hope it continues

So true. I wrote this ages ago, about those times when diabetes ‘follows the rules’ for a change, and all we have to do is the routine… and how that basically feels like hardly having diabetes at all!

Thank you @Bloden & thanks for your great blog @everydayupsanddowns so true.

I really am enjoying my current T1 sweet spot however I still have that unease in the back of my head- what’s going on? this isn’t normal, when’s it going to end?

For now I will keep alternating between activity & sleep mode on my pump and enjoy my moment of diabetes marvellousness 😉 it’s only taken 46 years to find! :D

So pleased that the system is working so well for you @Flower. You definitely deserve some time off all the faffing and glad the HCL has finally given that to you.
