Hi at the moment I am on Humulin and the nurse has told me I might be going into a synthetic hormone. This is a placebo isn't it and why would I still need to inject? Any advice please.

Hi Liese. I'm sorry I can't help or advise you but someone else will pick up your post and respond fairly soon x

Hi Liese,
I'm afraid like many others I have no idea what you are talking about, so you need to explain a bit more. Humulin is a synthetic hormone:confused: Or are you talking about HRT?

Perhaps Liese thinks Humulin is actually human insulin?

Since treatment with insulin jabs was discovered in 1923 - we have NEVER ever had human insulin to treat diabetics with. Originally it was purified from pigs and cattle pancreases, and then they started creating it. Humulin is made in a factory same as all the other usual ones, but they all have different recipes.

I'm wondering if it could be a non insulin injection

Welcome to the forum, Liese. It's difficult to answer with the information you've given. There are several types of insulin with Humalin in their name eg Humalin I, Humalin S etc. Without knowing the exact name of the "synthetic hormone" proposed by your nurse, it's impossible to comment further, without speculating. However, it is likely to be injected, as very few hormones can pass undamaged through stomach acid.

Hi, unfortunately that was the only information I was given. I don't really want to carry on injecting if I don't need to. I understand I will probably have to keep taking Metformin. I was only diagnosed with diabetes in January and along with a breakdown I had a couple of years ago I tend to have a bad memory and easily forget. I will wait to see what my results are and what the Dr wants to do. I don't go alone to the Dr so will ask my hubby to write things down.

Hi Liese, thanks for getting back in touch - when are you seeing your GP? I fully understand the after effects following a breakdown so yes its best to take your OH with you for support and be involved with discussions with your GP.

Ask your GP to explain things clearly so you understand, especially regarding your medication or other diabetes treatment. You may also ask if you should make an appointment with a DSN (Diabetes Specialist Nurse) who will want to monitor your progress.

Please update us following your appointment with your GP so we can offer our support & guidance. Take care now x

Hello Liese,
having a foggy brain is the pits isn't it? I hope you soon start to feel so much better in yourself.
It may seem daft but it does work, so you don't forget your insulin leave a note by your plate or the kettle and also one on your pillow if you take more than two injections a day. When my brain fog is bad I have to do things like that so I can remember to do the basic things. (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
